Murali Krishnamurthy -Founder and Executive Chairman, SEF, USA

Murali Krishnamurthy is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Sankara Eye Foundation, USA. An NIT Trichy graduate, Murali earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He worked in the IT industry in the San Francisco Bay Area and founded SEF, USA in 1998 to raise funds to support the mission of SEF, India.

In 2009, Murali took up a full-time position at SEF, USA. Under his leadership, SEF, USA grew to be the largest free eye care provider in the world with a network of 27 hospitals in 14 states in India and a capacity for over 600,000 free surgeries annually.

Murali draws his inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda to motivate and influence grassroots volunteers all over the USA. “Initially I believed I was playing a role in eliminating curable blindness, but now I know I am the biggest beneficiary. Sankara’s work has helped me grow spiritually,” he says.
